September is Deaf Awareness Month, and this year the Deaf Maine community isn’t doing just one event for it — we’re doing ten days of them. Did you know September isn’t just Deaf Culture Week here in Maine — it lines up with the International Week of the Deaf, celebrated by Deaf communities all over the world. So while we’re apple picking, getting tattoos with J9, and gathering at Mackworth Island, Deaf communities everywhere are celebrating right alongside us. Deaf Culture Week runs September 17–26, 2026, all across Maine.
